You need to complete your CBT first.
Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is your first step to getting on two wheels in the UK. It’s not a test, but a one-day course designed to teach you the essentials of safe riding.
You’ll learn the basics of bike control, road safety, and good habits - no prior experience needed.
Pass your CBT and you’ll be legal to ride a moped (up to 50cc) on public roads!
What's next?
Once you’ve completed your CBT, you’ll be able to:
Ride a moped up to 50cc (with L-plates) and then up to 125cc when you turn 17.
Ride solo on the road (no passengers, no motorways)
Gain valuable experience before moving up to bigger bikes later
You’ll receive a CBT certificate (DL196) that’s valid for 2 years - plenty of time to practice and enjoy your independence.
