You're 19-23 and have done your CBT
Congratulations - you’ve got your CBT and you’re on the road!
Now, let’s look at your next steps and licence options:
Stick with your CBT
Ride a 125cc motorcycle or scooter (up to 11kW/15bhp)
Display L-plates at all times
No passengers or motorway riding
CBT certificate is valid for 2 years - great for building experience or commuting
Upgrade to an A2 Motorcycle Licence
If you want to ride bigger bikes and enjoy more freedom, you can go for your A2 licence.
Step 1. Take and pass the motorcycle theory test
Step 2. Complete Module 1 and Module 2 practical riding tests on an A2-appropriate bike (restricted to 35kW/47bhp)
With the A2 licence, you can ride any bike up to 35kW (or a restricted version), carry a pillion passenger, and use motorways
No more L-plates and no need to renew your CBT every two years
Looking ahead to the full A licence
Once you turn 24 (or after holding your A2 for two years), you can train and test for the full, unrestricted A licence.
This lets you ride any bike, with no power limits.
