You need to complete your CBT first.
Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is the first step to getting out on the road, whatever your age or experience. It’s a practical, friendly one-day course that covers everything you need to know to start riding safely. No tests, no pressure - just expert guidance and hands-on learning.
Once you’ve passed your CBT, you can legally ride a 125cc motorcycle or scooter with L-plates.
What's next?
At 19 or over, passing your CBT opens up two main paths:
Ride a 125cc bike or scooter with L-plates (up to 11kW, no passengers, no motorways)
Move on to your full licence:
After your CBT, you’re now old enough to take your theory and practical tests for the A2 licence (which lets you ride bikes up to 35kW / 47bhp, often called “DAS restricted”).
Most riders use their CBT to get comfortable and build skills before tackling the full A2 licence tests.
Next Steps: Your Licence Options
Keep riding a 125cc bike on L-plates for up to 2 years (CBT certificate lasts 2 years)
Go for your A2 licence (if you’re ready for more power and want to ride bigger bikes, carry a passenger, or ditch the L-plates)
We can help with every step, from CBT right through to your full test.
