You're 24+ and have done your CBT
Congratulations - you’ve got your CBT and you’re on the road!
Now, let’s look at your next steps and licence options:
Upgrade to a full Unrestricted A Licence (Direct Access Scheme – DAS)
If you want the full motorcycling experience, you’re now eligible to go straight for the DAS route:
Step 1: Take and pass the motorcycle theory test
Step 2: Complete Module 1 and Module 2 practical tests on a full-sized motorcycle (over 595cc and at least 40kW/54bhp)
With the full A licence, you can ride any size or power of motorcycle, with no restrictions.
You can carry passengers, ride on motorways, and ditch the L-plates for good
No need to renew your CBT every two years.
Stick with your CBT
Ride a 125cc motorcycle or scooter (up to 11kW/15bhp)
Must display L-plates at all times
No motorway riding or carrying passengers
CBT certificate is valid for 2 years - use this time to build confidence and road experience
Not ready for DAS?
You can refresh your CBT if it’s about to expire, or take extra lessons to build confidence before committing to your full test.
