You need to complete your CBT first.
Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) is the essential starting point for anyone wanting to ride a motorcycle or scooter on UK roads, no matter your age or experience.
It’s a one-day practical course that covers the basics: bike control, road safety, and real-world riding skills - perfect for complete beginners or those returning after a break.
Complete your CBT and you’re ready to start riding straight away - no test required, just a day of hands-on learning.
What's next?
At 24 or over, you have the broadest range of options:
Ride a 125cc bike or scooter (with L-plates, no passengers, no motorways) for up to 2 years
Or jump straight onto bigger bikes:
As soon as you’ve finished your CBT, you’re eligible to start training for your full, unrestricted A licence via the Direct Access Scheme (DAS). This means you can go from complete beginner to riding any size of motorcycle - no waiting, no power limits.
Your Pathway to Freedom
CBT: Get comfortable on a 125cc bike, build your skills, and enjoy independent riding.
Ready for more? Move straight to our Direct Access (DAS) course - we’ll guide you every step of the way, from your first ride to your full licence.
With a full A licence, you can ride any motorcycle you like, carry passengers, and hit the open road without L-plates or restrictions.
